Coming Home to Your Body - Why Nervous Regulation Comes First

This month, I’ve been feeling drawn to nervous system regulation.

It was actually a recommendation from my Australian Witch mentor because lately I’ve become more and more able to work with souls that have passed.

When we want to do more, to expand, to create beyond what we currently have - the first step is always nervous system regulation.

Why Grounding Comes Before Growth

We want to make sure that we are anchored in our body, feeling even more solid within ourselves, so that we can grow our capacity to hold more.

So expansion can look like something coming outside of ourselves, and still for that to happen, the first step is always one of deepening our own roots.

And nervous system regulation can be actually quite simple - and yet very profound.

This is some of the work I’ve been doing this month, preparing my body to hold more in the coming years.

Simple Practices to Try

Here are some ideas of practices you can integrate in your daily life :

  1. Checking in with yourself three times a day to notice your inner state (nervous, calm, stressed, tired)

  2. Placing a hand on your chest, and a hand on your womb and taking 10 deep breaths.

  3. Noticing a few sensations in your body (vibration in your hands, warmth in your stomach, tightness in your neck)

  4. Feeling your feet solidly anchored in the ground and saying to yourself ‘‘I am here, I am safe’’

I know they feel simple, and yet these practices can be incredibly powerful to help you hold what you are holding in your life. Being anchored with these practices creates spaciousness.

Why Capacity Matters More Than Ease

When we are already stressed, or worried, and we feel activated, we have a smaller capacity to face what is right in front of us.

So the practice of grounding doesn’t mean that life just got easier or more simple. But it means we have more capacity to be with everything that arises.
